  • May 2024: Tenants vacate.

  • July 2024: Construction start.

    • Possible traffic disruptions with work within city right-of-way or equipment entering/exiting project site. Interim barricades and secured personnel will be onsite for safety.

  • Summer 2025: Construction end.

  • Waiānuenue ma Kapaʻakea translates to the rainbow in the freshwater springs of Kapa‘akea and represents a connection between Mānoa Valley – the valley of rainbows and the wai of Waikīkī. It is a connection point for the community and celebrates cultural diversity, intellectual boldness, innovative energy, and entrepreneurial spirit. Waiānuenue is a community-centered retail where memories are made and shared for a lifetime. 

    The project will modernize, add vibrancy, and create a vibrant space to the neighborhood and bring the community together through a mixture of retail, restaurants, and entertainment. Waiānuenue consists of the Varsity Center, the East-West Building, 2535 Coyne, and a portion of the Varsity Building parking lot.

  • Renovations are anticipated to begin this Summer of 2024, after the Mōʻiliʻili Summer Fest event on July 6, 2024. The overall renovation is anticipated to be completed in 2026.​​​​ 

  • The Waiānuenue ma Kapaʻakea buildings will remain at its current height.  

  • The Varsity Building is not included in the renovation project. Waiānuenue consists of the Varsity Center, the East-West Building, 2535 Coyne, and a portion of the Varsity Building parking lot.
